September 1939

A dismounted Polish cavalry formation desperately defend a treeline against the surging German panzers. Towards the end of the game, the Poles had lost most of their anti-tank capability and their infantry defending the village were hard pressed.

Two players were left to finish the game as the rest of us left the club for the evening, so we are unsure of the final result. Either way, some great early war armour on display!

  1. The German infantry failed a morale test and routed at which point we worked out that the Poles should have taken their test the previous 1/2 turn. They promptly failed their test and had to retire, so ceding the village first; however the Polish artillery had inflicted casualties on the German's so their morale test would still have been necessary. We agreed a draw. For those interested the points were 200:277 in the German's favour.
