Dark Age Pillage and Midgard

Some Dark Age fun with Vikings defeating Saxons, who were defending a stockade, in one engagement and also managing to successfully pillage a Saxon village in another. All in all, a bad night for the Saxons.

Dark Ages - Pillage

A brace of games set in the Dark Ages using the 'Pillage' skirmish rules system and scenarios. One game saw the Vikings see off a raiding party of Saxons; the other a deadly struggle between two competing clans of Rus.

These rules have proven to be popular at the club, partly because the game play mechanisms are relatively straightforward. The key to the games are the scenario settings provided in the rule book, which seem to keep players entertained for an evening's gaming.

A Brace of Dark Ages/Medieval Games

Pagan Saxons take on a warband of Norsemen. The Saxons were aided by an enslaved Ogre - Grendell (acting as a level 2 hero). He was forced to fight for his supper, but mainly just stomped about in a swamp for most of the game.

The highlights of the game were two hero challenges. The Norse commander slew the Saxon level 2 hero(es) - the brothers Hengist AND Horsa. Later the Saxon warlord slew the level 2 Norse hero. All in all, the Saxons achieved a hard fought victory.

Seven Years War, Ancients and Pillage, Twice

Four games at the club on Monday. Ancients using Mortem et Gloriam rules seems to be taking off and there were two games of the Dark Age skirmish game 'Pillage'.

Interestingly there was a sizeable game set in the Seven Years War pitting the Russians against the Prussians. The scale was 20mm, utilising miniatures from a wide rage of 20mm plastics manufacturers. Large 50+ figure battalions gave the game a true 'big battle' feel. The rules used were a set of fast play rules developed by the owner and painter of the collection.  I believe that the Prussians were outflanked by the Russians, despite making headway in the centre, resulting in a Russian victory.
