"The Battle for Evermore" - Cataclysmic Fantasy Battles

In this Led Zeppelin-esque, Tolkien-inspired mega-clash, five armies - representing good versus evil - fight it out for the future of Middle Earth at the base of the Misty Mountain.

An army of Orcs and Goblins was defeated by an army consisting of Men, Elves and Dwarves. Each side had roughly 600 points. Rules used were Midgard.

Highlights included a monstrous dwarf bombard cannon ball taking off the head of the Goblin king, killing him stone dead, when he rolled a double 1 for a risk to generals test; a unit of Orc boar chariots bouncing off a dwarven shield wall; Goblin light riders humbling some Elven horse...and many more.

The big disappointments were, respectively, The Dark Lord and the Queen of Light. They were 4 star scorcerers, although they managed to fluff most of their spell castings turn after turn and didn't have a huge influence on the battle.

Either way, Middle Earth was saved for the forces of good and the evil ones were banished forever. Well, until next time at least....

20mm Napoleonics and Midgard

20mm Napoleonics, utilising HaT Miniatures for the most part. 20mm really does enable you to get the feel for larger battles on a 6'x4' table, which is an advantage over 28mm, which can only really represent a 'big skirmish' on this size of table. More 20mm figures are being painted en masse as we speak!, so hopefully we will see more in this scale over the coming months.

Some 'Elf and Safety for Midgard as the Elven Host make a rare appearance on our battlefield in support of their Saxon allies. Nevertheless, the Norse invaders proved too powerful in this engagement and achieved a 'narrow win'.

Midgard - Vikings Withstand the Orc Surge

Despite an initially ferocious surge of Orcs towards the key objectives in this scenario (from the new Midgard campaign book), the Vikings stepped up to the plate, withstood the early surge of the grotesque abominations, and outclassed and outfought the Orc army, who were supported by their Goblin allies.

Best Viking unit award might have gone to a unit of Viking skirmishers who essentially kept the Troggoth Beast out of the game by evading it every time it tried to make contact. The most effective unit on the Orc side was probably the Goblin King who thoroughly enjoyed himself in the midst of all of the horror and carnage.
