Monday Games - WWII, Medieval and Napoleonics

Four games were hosted on Monday night, three of which are posted here, representing a huge span of military history from Medievals to WWII (the fourth one - sci fi - is covered in the next post).

These match-ups included Byzantines vs Normans, French vs Spanish and British vs Germans.

Three Bridges Too Far? WWII Eastern Front Action

In this highly enjoyable game scenario, a rag-tag German battle group had to make a fighting withdrawal across a river via several bridges, as a large number of Soviet tanks and infantry bore down upon them.

The fun aspect to this was that, as the Germans attempted to cross each of the bridges, they found them in various states of repair. Indeed one was completely destroyed.

The initial bravado of the Germans evaporated once they realised that the scenario was more difficult than thought at first and the game devolved into a mad scramble to escape the oncoming Russian horde. In the end the Germans did manage to successfully evacuate the heavy armour - a Panther and a Tiger, whilst some other units were left to their grizzly fate on the wrong side of the river.....

Once inside the town, the holy Brethren indulged in a terrible cleansing of the heretics by massacring every man, women, child, cat, dog and even mouse. Severed heads rolled down cobbled streets like bowling balls in a bowling alley; decapitated carcases were piled 2 storeys high in the market square, all in the name of the Heavenly Peaceful Kingdom.

And, as would be expected, the Imperial commanding general paid for his failure and incompetence with his head....

Saxons Fail to Throw Off the Norman Yoke

On Monday we had a fun game of Normans vs Saxons using Osprey's Lion Rampant rules. The Norman invaders got the better of the Saxons, despite their mounted knights making several ill-advised 'ferocious' (compulsory) charges into the woods to attack some Saxon skirmishers. In the end, the day was actually carried by the dismounted Norman knights, who managed to break a Saxon shield wall in and around the village.
