Spanish Civil War - "Arriba Espana!" - A Convincing Nationalist Victory

In this exciting encounter between the Nationalists and Republicans, Nationalist superior resolve, tank crew training and overall generalship carried the day. Highlights included a CV33 tankette knocking out a T26 with a flamethrower; a text book assault on a defended farm by the Foreign Legion, well supported by artillery, mortars and tankettes; combat in and around a church, which changed hands a couple of times as Carlist Requetes and Communist International Brigadiers fought for control; two T26s breaking down and remaining stuck in unfavourable positions.

All figures are by Empress Miniatures. Tanks are by Warlord Games, mostly. Rules used are Rapid Fire (with SCW appropriate special rules).

Monday Night Games - Iran-Iraq War

This was an initial play test using Team Yankee rules for the Iran-Iraq War. The rules work well for modern period gaming and the advanced technologies are death with in sophisticated, yet playable ways. This game was played with limited forces, but the game play is pretty deadly, even at long range, with stabilised firing systems and even laser rangefinders on T72s. The Iranians won both games, benefitting from better tanks and TOW jeeps.

The intention is to introduce the Americans and/or the British at a later date, match them against the Iraqis, and replay 'Desert Storm' battles from the Gulf War 1991.

Monday Night Games - The Advance to Paris

A Sharp Practice game set in the aftermath of Waterloo as the Allies advance on Paris in 1815.

Christmas Club Game - Napoleonics

Traditionally, we put on a Napoleonic game on the last Monday before Christmas, in which everyone brings a couple of brigades of their chosen army.

In this game, we saw the French take on an allied force of British, Spanish and Portuguese. The French had some localised successes, but the allied army held up well and repulsed the Frenchman. The stars of the show were the British Heavy Dragoons that, after 2 turns of drawn melee, saw off the heavy Carabineers. Also, the Portuguese line who, despite taking punishing casualties from artillery and musketry, held the line and managed to rout a French line battalion.

Making a special appearance tonight was the Emperor himself! This beautiful set is produced by Wargames Foundry and depicts the famous painting "Napoleon Near Borodino" by Vasily Vereshchagin.
