Age of Sigmar - First Battles

Arguably, the Age of Sigmar range contains some of the best miniatures produced by Games Workshop and for any fan of model soldiers, they are too tempting to pass by. Here are some images of the initial encounters between the Skaven (rats) and Ogor Mawtribes. All were easy to build and were a joy to paint.

Old Vikings vs New Vikings - Midgard Clash

We witnessed a Midgard clash between 'Old' Vikings against 'New' Vikings. The 'Old' are 25mm metal sculps from manufacturers such as Essex and Minifigs (amongst others), which really stand the test of time. They were pitted against the 'New', in the form of Victrix, Footsore and Sally4th Miniatures.

In the end, the Old Boys soundly defeated the New Upstarts by ensuring maximum impact from their charges, rammed home at the centre of the line.

Unplayable Napoleonics Scenario

The challenges posed by this completely unplayable scenario were exacerbated by the sheer bloody-minded incompetence of the respective commanders!!

Joking aside, this was actually a really enjoyable scenario which posed the French versus the Spanish, who faced off against each other across some very rough terrain of hills and woods which represented 'difficult going' and cover.

Eventually the Spaniards forced their way across the intervening terrain more effectively to deliver several knock-out blows, which forced a couple of French units to rout, setting off a domino effect amongst the French units, leading to the collapse of the entire army. It should be pointed out that the Spanish had an extra battalion, for some unexplained reason, so this might have helped. Also the author of the scenario was commanding on the Spanish side, so this might have explained the 'thumb on the scale', as it were....

Black Ops

An interesting game fought using Osprey's 'Black Ops' rule set.

Romania 1944

The Romanians went from neutrality, to an alliance with the Axis, through to  switching sides to join the allies, during the course of the war. This battle represented the point at which the Romanians turned on their German and Hungarian allies and stood in the way of their attempted retreat form the oncoming Soviet hordes.

In our battle, the Axis commanders were confused as to whether they should try to break through the Romanian lines, or defeat them in open battle. The Romains managed to hold back their former allies (using some of their gifted armour and equipment!) through clever use of AT guns, and a certain degree of defence in depth.
